The much-awaited $4 million SB Khan Mall in Labasa is set to open in September this year.
Mall owner and Labasa based businessman Bashir Khan said they were looking forward to the arrival of engineers coming in from China on the 24th of this month to carry out finishing works.
“These engineers will also come in to test the escalator before they give the green light,” Mr Bashir said.
He also highlighted the construction works which were still pending.
“We are just waiting for the final minor construction works before we open the mall to the people of Labasa,” he said.
“This escalator is the first of its own kind for the North and we are expecting a lot of people to come in when it starts functioning.”
Mr Khan said the structure of the mall was in accordance to the Look North Policy and they were working hard to provide the best for the Northern community.
In an earlier interview, Mr Khan said the first floor would have eatery shops, sitting arrangement would be provided where people could sit with friends to have coffee or business people can have meetings while having refreshments.
“I cannot reveal now as to how many shops we will have on second and third floor,” he said.
“However, I am looking at 36 shops, food courts and offices in total at the mall.”
Constructions on the $4 million building had started late last year.
