The Housing Authority of Fiji is developing a new subdivision at Covata in Labasa, the main township of Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest island.
Located three kilometers from Labasa’s central business district, the subdivision offers a total of 110 residential lots that are expected to be developed alongside a commercial and a civil lot.
The HA has recently advertised Expressions of Interest for the purchase of the residential lots, which range in size from 270sqm to 600sqm.
“All lots will be fully serviced with piped water, sewerage, electricity and tarsealed road with footpath,” the Authority confirmed.
All EOIs are required to be submitted via Property Demand Survey forms in HA Customer Relations Centre or on its website, while customers who have previously done so are required to submit and lodge updated customer and financial details as per the forms.
“It is important that this is done to ensure that the customer information is current and loan eligibility accessed accordingly,” the Authority added.
The HA confirmed that the main criteria for lot allocations include being a first time home owner, an annual household income below FJD $50,000, the ability to purchase the land and build a house and possessing Fijian citizenship.
The Authority has also advised all home loan customers whose properties were affected by recent flooding and Tropical Cyclone Keni to visit their nearest Customer Relations Centre, while Housing Authority staff inspect flood-hit areas and assess required repairs, provide advice on available options and applicable insurance claims.
The HA said insurance claims must be lodged within 30 days of damage in compliance with the provisions of the insurance policy and that policy excess/deductible applicable for cyclone and flood claims is FJD $2000 on each claim per property.
The Housing Authority Board has recently appointed a three-member management committee to carry out the functions of the Chief Executive Officer, following the controversial resignation of former CEO, Dr Punit Sethi in March this year.
The management committee consists of the HA’s General Manager Land & Housing Development – Isikeli Navuda, General Manager Finance and Administration Poasa Verevakabau and Manager Technical Services Iliesa Rakaseta.
