The total estimated value of construction work put in place for the December quarter of 2017 amounted to $140.3 million.
This was noted by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics in the quarterly construction survey covering work carried out by all registered private building and civil works contractors for both the private and general government.
The survey was recently released.
The total value of work put in place was an increase of 3.3 per cent ($4.4 million) compared to the September quarter of 2017, and an increase of 5.2 per cent ($7.0 million) when compared to the December quarter of 2016.
“From the total estimated value of $140.3 million for work done in the December quarter of 2017, 66.1 per cent was in the private sector,” the Bureau noted.
“The total value of work attribute to the private sector was up by 2.7 per cent ($2.4 million) when compared to the September quarter of 2017 and 14.3 per cent ($11.6 million) when compared to the December quarter of 2016 respectively.”
General government accounted for 33.9 per cent of work, with an increase of 4.4 per cent ($2.0 million) compared to the September quarter of 2017, though it declined by 8.8 per cent ($4.6 million) compared to the December quarter of 2016.
The Bureau noted that from the total estimated value of $140.3 million for work done in the December quarter of 2017, new buildings and capital repairs amounted for 52.1 per cent.
“Total value of new buildings and capital repairs was up by 2.3 per cent ($1.6 million) when compared to the September quarter of 2017 and 9.9 per cent ($6.6 million) when compared to the December quarter of 2016 respectively.”
According to the Bureau, current repairs and maintenance accounted for 7.7 per cent, with their total value increasing by 7.6 per cent ($0.7 million) compared to the September quarter of 2017 and 6.7 per cent ($0.6 million) compared to the December quarter of 2016, respectively.
The Bureau noted that civil engineering works accounted for 40.2 per cent.
“Total value of civil engineering works was up by 3.7 per cent ($2.0 million) compared to the September quarter of 2017 but declined by 0.5 per cent ($0.3 million) when compared to the December quarter of 2016.”
The total estimated value of construction work put in place in 2017 amounted to $540.4 million), which when compared to 2016, nots an increment of 5.2 per cent ($26.5 million).
The total value of new buildings and capital repairs increased in 2017 by 11.7 per cent ($29.4 million) compared to 2016.
